Talking Birds is committed to respecting the privacy of its audiences, employees and collaborators, and will always treat any personal data we collect carefully and confidentially. We are also committed to meeting the requirements of current legislation: namely the Data Protection Act and The General Data Protection regulation (GDPR).
GDPR provides the following rights for individuals:

How we treat your data: We will always tell you what we will do with your data when we collect it, including how we store and process it. We will not use your data in ways other than those which you have agreed to. We will never pass your data on to third parties without your permission. We will store your data securely, using password-protected systems and encryption when it is stored electronically, and a good old old lock and key for anything in hard copy. We will not keep data longer than is necessary, and will dispose of it securely. We will respect your rights under data protection laws.
Rights of access, correction and erasure: You can ask us at any time for the data we hold in relation to you and we will respond within 14 days. If any of the details we hold about you are incorrect, we will update them as soon as you tell us (within 7 days). You can change your mind about being on our mailing list at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in the footer of any email you receive from us, or by contacting us via the contact page on our website and we will delete your information from our list. Workforce monitoring data: As a publicly funded organisation, we are required to monitor our workforce, (including employees, freelance/contractual staff, board membership, and volunteers) and have to report on this annually to our funder, Arts Council England. The data we collect helps inform the Arts Council about inequalities in the sector, so that any action required can be identified. It also helps us to monitor the diversity of our workforce, and how well this represents the audience and communities we serve. We collect this data through monitoring forms, which are completed either in hard copy, or more usually via Google Forms. We store the data we receive securely (see How we treat your data) and report on it it anonymously – in other words workforce data is not reported by individuals: all names are removed from the data before it is analysed. If you work for us and prefer not to give specific data when complete a monitoring form, there is always a ‘prefer not to say’ option.
Business to business data (including freelance workforce): Personal details of people working for us will be stored for purposes of contracting and making payments, and delivering contracted services. We only store the details we need to do this. These consist of:
- contact details to enable us to issue contracts and to contact you in relation to work to be carried out (address, email, phone numbers)
- invoices from individuals to enable payments to be processed
