Come and find out about some of the creative stuff that happens inside The Nest and The Daimler Powerhouse at our Neighbourhood Creative Day.

The doors of both The Nest & The Daimler Powerhouse (known collectively as The Powerhouse) will be open on June 22nd from 11am-3pm so that you can see what kinds of things happen inside, and try some creative activities for yourself. Everything is free and there is no need to book.

What to expect:

There will be lots of things happening, and (mostly) you can just drop in and have a go. It won’t cost you anything and you’ll be able to take most of the things you make away with you. It’s an opportunity to meet some of the artists based at The Powerhouse and to find out what we do. It’s also an opportunity to meet other people from the local area – and there’ll also be free tea, coffee and cake. Fingers crossed for nice weather…

*Step inside The Whale and become the audience for a three minute mini theatre show performed just for you (or for you and a friend, if you’re shy!)

*Get your bike tuned by Doctor Bike.

*Make a greetings card with Lakcon.

*Do some slow stitching with Julia.

*Grow-your-own tasty salads: plant a tub of cut-and-come-again salad leaves to take away and grow on your windowsill.

*Join a mindful walk.

*Make Coventry postcards with Underground Lights.

*Watch a rehearsal of Milesians by Imagineer (11am-12 only)

*Grab an instrument and join the music jam in the studio with Media Mania.

*Clay sculpture: learn how to sculpt clay flowers with artists from Pangaea Sculptor’s Centre.

*Make a placard and add your message to the mini Restore Nature Now march.

*Find out about the fascinating history of the Daimler Powerhouse with David.

*Bring a book you’ve read and exchange it for one you’d like to read at the Neighbourhood Book Exchange.

*Meet the Young Producers at Highly Sprung.

Also on the day: Browse the pop-up Neighbourhood Gallery showing the creativity of our neighbours (if you’d like to exhibit something you have made, please let us know); mini indoor den-making for small children; Book Exchange (bring a book to swap); Neighbourhood Information Point (info on all the local organisations involved in putting the day together; Pop-up resting space; Tea, coffee and cake; spot Godiva…

This pop up event has been organised by a brilliant and dedicated group of Coventry people working with the artists at Talking Birds, in order to test out recommendations from Coventry’s Citizens’ Assembly on Arts & Culture.

It takes courage to step up and organise something to make life in your neighbourhood or city better – and it’s so exciting to see how taking part in the Citizens’ Assembly got these “ordinary Coventry people” fired up to make a difference in our city. Before the Assembly they didn’t even know each other and, since then, they’ve worked together to bring to life the vision of Coventry that their recommendations describe. We hope lots of you will come and enjoy the event they’ve put together – and perhaps you’ll be inspired to get involved in making things happen in your own neighbourhood?

The event has been supported with funding from the Heart of England Community Foundation.
